THERAPEUTIC SESSIONS
Embodied Harmony’s principal counsellor, Rebecca, is a registered counsellor in Australia with a Masters of Counselling and Honours Degree in Psychological Sciences. While both counselling and psychology aim to improve mental well-being, they have distinct focuses and methods. Here’s how they differ:
Counselling
Counselling is a client-centered approach that focuses on helping individuals navigate emotional challenges, life transitions, and personal growth. As a registered counsellor, Rebecca provides:
- Emotional Support: Helping you work through feelings of sadness, stress, or overwhelm.
- Practical Tools: Teaching coping strategies to handle life’s challenges effectively.
- Exploration of Personal Experiences: Offering a space to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and relationships.
The emphasis in counselling is on healing through connection, empathy, and active listening, tailored to your unique needs and pace.
Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Psychologists often work with individuals facing mental health disorders or complex psychological issues. Key aspects of psychology include:
- Diagnosis of Mental Health Disorders: Using clinical assessments to identify conditions such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
- Evidence-Based Interventions: Employing structured treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
- Focus on Behavioural Patterns: Analysing how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are interconnected.
Psychologists typically use a research-based, diagnostic framework to understand and treat mental health issues, often in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Key Differences
Aspect | Counselling | Psychology |
---|---|---|
Focus | Supporting emotional healing and personal growth | Diagnosing and treating mental health disorders |
Approach | Empathetic, relational, and conversational | Research-based, diagnostic, and structured |
Practitioner Training | Specialised in counselling and therapeutic techniques | Extensive training in psychological theories and assessments |
Outcome | Improved emotional resilience and well-being | Treatment of clinical symptoms and behavioural patterns |
Which One is Right for You?
- Choose counselling if you’re looking for a compassionate, supportive space to work through emotions, improve relationships, or manage life challenges.
- Consider psychology if you’re seeking a clinical diagnosis or specialised treatment for complex mental health conditions.
Rebecca brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support your healing journey. With extensive training in psychological theories and therapeutic interventions, she draws on evidence-based practices to help you navigate emotional challenges, improve relationships, and achieve personal growth.
While deeply skilled in counselling techniques that promote emotional well-being and resilience, it’s important to note that, as a registered counsellor, Rebecca does not provide diagnoses for mental health conditions or treat complex mental health disorders.
This is a common question and it is important to understand how each can support you.
At Embodied Harmony, Rebecca brings a unique blend of skills as both a registered counsellor and an accredited transformation life coach. These roles complement each other beautifully, but they also have distinct focuses. Here’s a breakdown to help you understand the difference:
Counselling
Counselling is a therapeutic process that focuses on helping you heal and work through challenges from your past or present. It is client-centered and often involves addressing:
- Emotional Pain: Working through feelings such as anxiety, grief, or trauma.
- Patterns and Triggers: Exploring why certain situations or behaviors repeat in your life.
- Mental Health Concerns: Providing support and tools to manage stress, overwhelm, or difficult emotions.
As a registered counsellor, Rebecca creates a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your emotions and challenges at your own pace. The focus is on healing, understanding, and acceptance, often diving deep into the subconscious to bring awareness to the root of your struggles.
Mentorship
Mentorship, on the other hand, is forward-focused and action-oriented. It’s about:
- Personal Growth: Helping you step into your highest potential.
- Goal Setting and Achievement: Clarifying what you want and creating a roadmap to get there.
- Accountability and Empowerment: Supporting you to take aligned, inspired action.
As an accredited transformational life coach, mentorship sessions focus on future possibilities, mindset shifts, and creating the life you desire. Together, we’ll identify limiting beliefs, design actionable steps, and celebrate your wins along the way.
Key Differences
Aspect | Counselling | Mentorship |
---|---|---|
Focus | Healing from the past or present | Building the future you desire |
Approach | Reflective, therapeutic | Action-oriented, goal-driven |
Role of Practitioner | Facilitates healing and emotional resilience | Acts as a guide, motivator, and strategist |
Outcome | Emotional clarity and personal understanding | Forward momentum and tangible life transformation |
How Rebecca Integrates the Two
At Embodied Harmony, the magic happens when these approaches work together. Some sessions may lean more into counselling to address deep-seated challenges, while others take on the energy of mentorship to move you forward. This blend ensures that you:
- Heal what’s holding you back.
- Step confidently into the life you’re meant to lead.
Whether you’re seeking deep emotional healing, transformative personal growth, or both, Rebecca is here to guide you every step of the way.
Rebecca’s areas of expertise include:
Building self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth
Exploring crossroads in life
Feeling lost or stuck in the present
Adjusting to life’s challenges and changes
Changes in mood, energy, and motivation
Anxiety-related challenges
Trauma
Personal or workplace relationship issues
Stress management
Medicare rebates are not available for counselling or mentorship services. As such, a mental health care plan (MHCP) or referral from your GP is not required to access counselling services. A MHCP is a support plan intended for clients with mental illnesses who require further access to psychological and psychiatric services.
We have carefully structured our fees so that clients are not paying any more for mental health and wellbeing services than they would with a Medicare rebate. The Australian Psychological Society recommends psychologists charge $311 per 46-60 minute session. Our standard counselling fee is $140 per 60 minute session or $197 per 90 minute Uplift & Transform mentorship session, making our fees comparable to the typical gap fee you would pay if you were seeing a psychologist under a MHCP.
This means that you can access our counselling and mentorship services directly, allowing for greater flexibility and accessibility in addressing your mental health and wellbeing needs. In other words, you are not restricted to the number of sessions or exposed to lengthy wait times to commence your wellbeing journey.

Rescheduled sessions within the 24 hour notice period due to extenuating circumstances will not incur a cancellation fee, however as much notice as is possible is appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Your sessions are strictly confidential and will not be released outside of Embodied Harmony without your permission. The only time a counsellor may release information is if they believe you are at risk of harm, if you have provided consent to share information with a third party, or if subpoenaed by a court of law.
